The nationally best-known Scout woodcarvers beyond Choby are Bill Burch and then Jeff Springer, in my opinion. Burch slides and bolos have a stamp on the back with his address. He numbered his bolos on the back in pencil. Both men served on Jamboree staff. Jeff wrote the last Slide of the Month columns for Boy’s Life and the most recent Woodcarving merit badge pamphlet. Other Jamboree staff carvers that Bruce has gotten to know include Bob Reitmeyer and Chris Gardea. Bob sold blanks, slides, and tools to camps for many years. Chris has been teaching at Philmont recently.
